Smoke Module
I have a simple small smoke module with a electric motor and heater.
I have connected the heater element to output 17, the motor +ve is connected to 16 and the -ve to negative.
Likewise I have assigned the outputs on 16/17.
However the electric motor does not run, have I missed something..

Re: Smoke Module
Hello,
Connect +ve to battery plus and -ve to output 16, and you must also install a flyback diode (GND at the bottom right in the drawing will be the output). Else the USM-RC-3 will get damaged!
each output switches 0V, so when both terminals of the motor are connected as described and the output is switched on then both +ve and -ve are connected to negative potential. Therefore the motor won't turn.the motor +ve is connected to 16 and the -ve to negative.

I assume you have configured them as "Smoke generator fan" (16) and "Smoke generator heater" (17) ?Likewise I have assigned the outputs on 16/17.

Re: Smoke Module
many thanks for the reply and help, I will get hold of a flyback diode before I make the change.
Yes I have configured the outputs as "Smoke generator fan" (16) and "Smoke generator heater" (17).
fingers X'd this will work

Re: Smoke Module
mmmmmm, more help needed .
So I connected the -ve with a 1n4001 diode to pin 16, and the +v to battery +v (6v).
I know that the motor works as if I connect direct to the battery it spins.
When I disconnect 16 and put a volt meter across +v and pin 16, with the engine running, there is no reading, so I believe I have missed a setting in the Teacher matrix.
My settings regarding engine are.
General = direct sound is controlled Prop 5 (working)
Engine Sound = unchecked turn on engine sound automatically
S-bus= Prop 4 = Ch 10 engine on off (working), Prop 5 = ch6 Volume (working)
Prop Ch's = Prop 4 = Short position - engine on off (working)
Outputs- 16= Smoke gen fan Intensity 100, option 1 20, option 2 100. Output 17 Smoke gen Heater Intensity 100, option 1 20, option 2 90
Output options - smoke generator always on when engine is on.
Appreciate any help here you can give.
One other question, I have a second USM RC 3 but the component (voltage regulator?) under the power in is burnt out, anyone know what this component is so that I can replace and see if there is more damage to the board,

Re: Smoke Module
Hello,
please upload the current configuration file (*.usm-rc-3) for me to check.
I can't help with the burnt component, sorry.

So where did you connect the other side of the diode? The side with the ring must be connected to the motor terminal +ve as shown here.So I connected the -ve with a 1n4001 diode to pin 16, and the +v to battery +v (6v).
I can't help with the burnt component, sorry.

Re: Smoke Module
So I completely misread the wiring and have attached what I did.

Re: Smoke Module
Thanks, the configuration looks ok.
That diode must be parallel to the motor, not in series. It will work this way but provides no protection for the output if in series (just causes a small voltage drop).
Does output 17 (heater) work when the engine sound is switched on?
If yes but output 16 (fan) does not change to another output after you have wired the diode correctly to the motor terminals.
If that new output works then output 16 has likely been damaged.
If the new output does not work please
a) record a diagnosis as described in the manual on pages 105 to 107.
b) upload the diagnosis file and the updated configuration file here.

Re: Smoke Module
Many thanks for assisting in this I do appreciate your assistance
Ok I switched to output 15 just in case, and you can see from the diagnostics that they both activate.
However if I put a meter across 15 and +ve I get 0.08v at idle and 0.53v at max throttle

Re: Smoke Module
Hello,
there is no throttle signal received by the SFR-1. You should have noticed this because the engine sound won't change when you move the throttle stick.
So SBUS/SUMD Channel 3 is not sending any signal to Prop #1. -> Check transmitter and receiver configuration.

Re: Smoke Module
Ok thanks, after a bit of tinkering I now have it working.
Many thanks for your assistance.
